One dead after car overturns, catches fire on Highway 101 in Atascadero

A CHP officer on scene confirmed one person has been killed and three others injured in the crash that sparked a vegetation fire on Highway 101.
Details on the circumstances of the crash were not immediately available.
The vegetation fire is approximately one acre.

A car crash in Atascadero has sparked a vegetation fire off Highway 101, according to California Highway Patrol.
According to CHP’s incident report page, a vehicle overturned in the area of the Del Rio Road exit on northbound Highway 101 around 2 p.m. The vehicle caught on fire and appears to have sparked a nearby vegetation fire.
Smoke and fire could be seen from nearby residences in the Templeton area, according to CHP’s incident page.
It is unclear the size of the fire.
Authorities are requesting a possible temporary closure of the roadway as emergency responders work in the area, according to police scanner traffic.
The coroner has been requested to the scene of the crash, according to the incident page.
