Paso Robles man killed in Highway 101 crash near Buellton

A Paso Robles man was fatally injured late Saturday night in a crash on Highway 101 near Buellton, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle rollover involving a Ford F-250 pickup occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the northbound lanes just north of Highway 154.

For unknown reasons, the driver abruptly turned to the left, causing him to lose control and overturn into the highway median, the CHP said.

Firefighters had to do extensive extrication to remove the victim from the wreckage, according to Capt. Daniel Bertucelli of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The patient was taken by AMR ambulance to the Santa Ynez Airport, then transferred to the county’s Copter 4 for transport to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

His name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The crash was under investigation by the CHP. Anyone who witnessed it asked asked to contact the agency’s Buellton office at 805-688-5551.
