Firefighters quickly douse brush fire burning Cal Poly hillside
Fire crews quickly extinguished a vegetation fire that burned an acre of brush on Tuesday behind apartments on Cal Poly’s campus.
The fire was located behind the Cerro Vista Apartments residence halls at the edge of campus.
Air tankers responded and dropped flame retardant on the fire as it burned on the hillside.
Just before 7 p.m., San Luis Obispo City Fire tweeted the fire was about one acre with a moderate rate of spread.
Firefighters reported they had stopped the flames’ forward progress at 7:25 p.m., and ground crews then worked to mop up. An investigator was called into assess the cause of the fire.
Shortly after, firefighters responded to a structure fire in San Miguel.
The fire was reported around 7:12 p.m. in the 13300 block of River Road, according to emergency response app, PulsePoint.
Crews on scene reported a “fully involved residential structure fire” with flames spreading into the nearby vegetation, according to Cal Fire.
The fire was knocked down by 8 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
