SLO police identify man who died after falling from retaining wall

San Luis Obispo police have identified the man who died last month after falling off of a roughly 13-foot retaining wall onto a sidewalk across from the San Luis Cemetery.

A spokesman for the department on Tuesday identified the man as 59-year-old Daniel Leflore, who public records list as a San Luis Obispo resident.

The Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that the man’s family has been notified of his death.

Leflore died on the afternoon of April 21 near the billboard in the 2800 block of South Higuera Street after witnesses saw a man in his 50s walking atop the large concrete wall that follows along the sidewalk, a police sergeant at the scene told a Tribune photographer.

Those witnesses later told emergency personnel that they didn’t see the man fall, but recalled looking back and seeing the man on the ground, Sgt. Trevor Shaloob said.

Police, EMTs, and deputies with the Sheriff-Coroner’s Office responded to the area and reduced traffic on Higuera Street for about an hour as they processed the scene.
