Motorcyclist killed in crash on Highway 1

Update: CHP confirmed the person who died was Klayton Kidd, a 76-year-old Morro Bay resident.

Original story: A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Friday afternoon on Highway 1 south of Ardath Drive in Cambria, the CHP says.

A spokeswoman at the agency’s dispatch center in San Luis Obispo late Friday afternoon would only confirm that one person was dead following a crash on Highway 1, but would not disclose a location.

According to the agency’s incident web page, a report came in at 3:23 p.m. of a collision between an unspecified yellow motorcycle and a Jeep Cherokee.

Sheriff’s deputies were also dispatched to the scene, recorded as being near Highway 1 and Ardath Drive, where traffic immediately backed up in both lanes and a SIG Alert was issued.

As of 5 p.m., CHP and Sheriff’s Office investigators were still on the scene, and the roadway was open by 5:27 p.m., the CHP website said.

It is standard procedure for CHP to release the names of crash victims after family members have been notified.
