Pismo Beach police release name of surfer who died from head injury

Police have identified the surfer who died in Pismo Beach on Friday.

According to Pismo Beach Police Chief Jake Miller, the man has been identified as 54-year-old Grant Nordwall, of Nipomo.

Miller said he did not have any additional details on the circumstances of Nordwall’s death.

On Friday, Pismo Beach police and Cal Fire personnel responded to the beach area near the Pier to a call for a surfer with a head injury.

Cal Fire arrived on scene as police were pulling the unconscious man from the waves.

They attempted CPR but the man did not survive.

Nordwall’s next of kin has been notified.
