CHP helicopter rescues injured hiker on SLO’s Bishop Peak

An injured woman was plucked off Bishop Peak on Saturday after she fractured her ankle on the switchbacks.

Cal Fire, SLO County Fire and San Luis Obispo City firefighters were notified of a request for medical aid at 2:15 p.m. involving a young woman with an injured ankle near the summit.

The firefighters hiked up from the Foothill Road side of the mountain to the victim’s location, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief George Huang.

The CHP helicopter H70 also responded and airlifted the woman down from the summit.

It would have taken 4 to 5 hours for her to be walked down, Huang said. The woman was returned to the trailhead and transported by a private vehicle to a local hospital.
