Lucia Mar Unified School District superintendent resigns suddenly after 2 years
Lucia Mar Unified School District Superintendent Andy Stenson is resigning after only about two years at the helm of the county’s largest school district, he announced Friday.
According to Lucia Mar spokeswoman Amy Jacobs, Stenson submitted his resignation to the school board Friday afternoon. It is effective June 30.
Stenson was hired as superintendent in September 2018 to replace then-Superintendent Raynee Daley who left the district for health reasons. Prior to that, he served as the district’s assistant superintendent of business.
According to Jacobs, Stenson is “taking a step back to create a better balance for himself and his family.” He has asked the board to reassign him to another position in Lucia Mar the next school year.
“Mr. Stenson has always been an exemplary example of TEAM Lucia Mar and while we will miss his leadership as our superintendent, he will remain a valued member of our district family,” school board president Vicki Meagher said in the news release.
The school board will consider action on the acceptance of his resignation and request for reassignment, and discuss its next steps, and its next meeting Tuesday.
Headquartered in Arroyo Grande, Lucia Mar is the largest school district in San Luis Obispo County, serving more than 10,600 students in the South County area.
