Grover Beach police identify man hit, killed by car while crossing the street

Grover Beach police have released the name of a pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a car on a dimly lit section of North Oak Park Boulevard.

The Grover Beach Police Department identified the man Monday as 33-year-old Justin Dean Truman Kissinger of Arroyo Grande.

According to a police department news release, emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the 300 block of North Oak Park Boulevard around 6:58 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2020.

When they arrived, first responders found Kissinger “gravely injured after being struck by a SUV,” according to police.

Police officers administered CPR until medics arrived, but Kissinger was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, stayed at the scene to speak to officers following the crash, police said. The driver was checked and found to not be intoxicated, the department said.

According to the release, preliminary investigation indicates Kissinger was trying to cross the road near an unmarked intersection when he was hit by the car.

The Grover Beach Police Department and the CHP are investigating the incident.
