Man hit, killed while crossing street in Grover Beach, police say

A man was struck and killed while crossing the street in Grover Beach on Tuesday night.

According to police, emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic accident in the 300 block of North Oak Park Boulevard around 6:58 p.m.

Crews found an adult male who was “gravely injured after being struck by a SUV,” according to a news release.

Officers administered CPR until medics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is not being released, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, stayed at the scene to speak to officers following the crash. The driver was checked and found to not be intoxicated, police said.

According to the release, preliminary investigation indicates the man was trying to cross the road near an unmarked intersection when he was hit by the car.

The Grover Beach Police Department and California Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
