Oceano woman killed after car veers off Highway 101, hits tree in Shell Beach

Update, 11:05 p.m.

The person killed in the car crash off Highway 101 near Shell Beach was a 26-year-old woman from Oceano, according to California Highway Patrol.

The woman was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Highway 101 near Spyglass Drive at an unknown speed Monday evening when the car for unknown reasons traveled out of control over the south road edge embankment and hit a tree.

The woman sustained major injuries due to the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the incident is being investigated, and the name of the driver is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

One person is dead after a vehicle crash near Highway 101 in Shell Beach on Monday night.

According to CHP, the incident happened just before 8 p.m. involving an unidentified vehicle in the vicinity of Spyglass Drive near the southbound Highway 101 on-ramp. Authorities responded to reports of a vehicle off the road, between the highway and the on-ramp.

Officers were still on scene investigating as of 9 p.m.

Further details were not immediately available Monday night.
