New Marriott hotel in Paso Robles has taken years to build. When will it open?
The Marriott Residence Inn has sat unfinished along Highway 46 West in Paso Robles for three years, but construction could finally be wrapping up by the end of this year.
As of Monday, the 128-room extended-stay hotel, located on Vine Street near Highway 46 West, appeared fully stuccoed with new windows. But the parking lot was still unfinished and fenced off.
The project broke ground in late 2023, with an expected completion date some time in 2024. But since then, the hotel has experienced major delays.
In 2024, winter storms exposed leaky roofs, which stalled construction until August of that year. Once construction resumed, completion was then slated for early 2025.
It’s now mid-2026 and the hotel is still not ready for guests.
John Blem, regional director of operations for San Diego-based Excel Hotel Group, told The Tribune that those initial rainy days delayed the project and have since set the tone for construction to present day.
“Once the construction was off schedule, we had additional delays to reschedule construction and subcontractors,” he said via email.
Now, the project is anticipated to open by late 2026 or early 2027, Blem said.
Rates for the new hotel are still unclear, but rooms at Courtyard by Marriott Paso Robles are currently running for about $175 a night.
Rooms at the nearest Marriott Residence Inn in San Luis Obispo — some of which have full kitchens — run for about $234 to $318 a night.
“The Residence Inn by Marriott Paso Robles will be an important addition to the lodging options in the community because of its large rooms featuring full kitchens and complimentary breakfast daily,” Blem said. “The lobby bar will feature some of the best local wineries and snacks for guests to enjoy with sweeping views of the Paso Robles hillsides. We are looking forward to serving the community and its visitors for many years to come.”
