Popular Mexican restaurant is ready to open in new downtown SLO spot — with free tacos

Forget Taco Tuesday — this week in San Luis Obispo it’ll be more like Taco Thursday as a popular Mexican restaurant opens a new spot downtown with a delicious deal.

Efren’s, which took over the former Tortilla Town spot next to Barnes and Noble in the Downtown Centre, is ready to open its latest Central Coast location this week.

According to a Facebook post, the restaurant plans to give out free tacos Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

“Bring your crew, grab some tacos and enjoy a full night of flavor,” the restaurant said in the post.

The new location will be the popular local restaurant chain’s fourth Central Coast spot and its second in San Luis Obispo.

The family also operates Efren’s restaurants at 1285 Laurel Lane in San Luis Obispo, at 1720 Beach St. in Oceano and 1625 South Blosser Road in Santa Maria.

Mexican restaurant plans weekend grand opening in SLO

Efren’s is also preparing for a special grand opening celebration this weekend.

According to another post on the business’s Facebook page, a grand opening event will be held Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

“This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support of our amazing community,” the post read. “We’re so grateful to be able to grow and continue sharing our passion for authentic Mexican flavors with you all.”

The grand opening will feature live music by Mariachi Autlence, as well as “incredible food and great company,” according to the restaurant.

“Thank you, San Luis Obispo, for embracing us and making this dream possible,” the post concluded. “Let’s make this grand opening unforgettable — see you there.”
