Lululemon is moving to a bigger spot in downtown SLO. Here’s where
Another prominent vacant downtown San Luis Obispo spot is getting a tenant — though it’s not a new business to downtown.
Popular athleisure brand Lululemon plans to move from its current space across from the Mission at 840 Monterey St. to an empty retail storefront at 980 Higuera St., according to a sign posted on the window of the latter space as of Tuesday.
It will take over what was previously Abercrombie & Fitch, which closed its Court Street Plaza location in 2021.
The new Lululemon is expected to open this spring.
It is unclear what will happen to the Monterey Street location once the store moves to its new home.
Lululemon opened in that space in 2016 as part of the Copeland Properties’ downtown Chinatown project.
Since then, a number of businesses in that development have shut their doors and been replaced by new tenants, including Thomas Hill Organics in 2017, Mint + Craft in 2023 and Marine Layer in 2024.
As of Tuesday, only Mint + Craft along that stretch remained vacant, though a sign posted in its window teased “something savory is coming.”
Meanwhile a manager at the Monterey Street Lululemon declined to comment on the move, saying all media requests must be directed through the company.
A request for comment from Lululemon’s media representative was not returned as of Tuesday.
