UPDATE 2:50 p.m.

Lululemon Athletica’s new store in downtown San Luis Obispo will be open seven days a week and employ a team of 20, replacing a part-time location that has seven employees, store manager Holly Stevenson said.

She said the store at 840 Monterey St. will offer a mix of retail and other services — “from yoga classes to run clubs to workshops.”

“Our community is ready for a store,” Stevenson said.

“We’re really successful not just from a financial standpoint,” she said, but also in terms of community support from local yoga studio owners and others. She would not share details of sales in San Luis Obispo.

Stevenson said the city is an ideal market for Lululemon Athletica, an athletic apparel company based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

“The culture ... here is so active and health-oriented,” she said. “It just a really nice cultural fit.”

Original story:

A Lululemon Athletica store will open in downtown San Luis Obispo this fall as part of the Chinatown project.

The store is the first permanent San Luis Obispo County location for the Vancouver, British Columbia-based yoga, dance and running clothing retailer, and it is set to open in mid-September at 840 Monterey St., according to Copeland Properties, which is developing the site.

The 2,500-square-foot space is at Chorro and Monterey streets near Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. It will replace Lululemon’s part-time showroom at 547 Marsh St.

Other retail spots slated for the Chinatown mixed-use development include an H&M clothing store and a Williams-Sonoma kitchenware and home furnishing store. Paso Robles bistro Thomas Hill Organics is opening a San Luis Obispo restaurant as part of the Chinatown project.

The Monterey Street store is the third Lululemon Athletica location to open in San Luis Obispo in recent years.

The athletic apparel company operated a pop-up store on Higuera Street from April to September 2014. Then in 2015, Lululemon Athletica signed a one-year lease for its Marsh Street location.

Founded in 1998, Lululemon Athletica has more than 200 stores worldwide and reported an estimated annual revenue of $1.8 billion in 2015, according to The Wall Street Journal’s Market Watch.
