Spirit Halloween store has reopened in San Luis Obispo — in a new location

It may still technically be summer in San Luis Obispo County, but an early sign of the impending spooky season has once again returned to the Central Coast.

Spirit Halloween, the seasonal costume and decoration store known for opening pop-up shops in vacant storefronts through the month of October, has once again opened in San Luis Obispo.

This time, however, it’s in a slightly different location in the SLO Promenade shopping center off Madonna Road.

In previous years, the Halloween store has set up shop in the long-vacant Staples building across the parking lot from its new location.

This year, however, Spirit opened in the significantly smaller building that housed Dollar Tree until its closing in June 2021.

According to its website, Spirit Halloween is “the largest Halloween retailer in the country with over 1,400 locations in strip centers and malls across the U.S. and Canada.” It offers a range of costumes, accessories, seasonal home and outdoor decor, party goods and exclusive animatronics, according to the website.

A second SLO County Spirit Halloween is expected to open in Paso Robles in the former Bed Bath and Beyond spot at 2449 Golden Hill Road, though the company has not yet announced an opening date.
