Paso Robles jewelry store is closing after a decade: ‘We’re going to miss the community’
Siegel’s Jewelry is closing its Paso Robles store after 10 years.
Ken Siegel, a third-generation jeweler from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and his wife, Kris, said they are closing their family-run shop at 739 12th Street in Paso Robles
The Siegels are offering discounts of up to 70% off new and estate jewelry until everything is gone, according to a news release.
The couple is originally from Iowa, where Ken’s grandfather, Joseph Siegel, started a family jewelry business in 1940.
After visiting Paso Robles in February 2012 as part of a 25th wedding anniversary trip, the Siegels fell in love with the community and decided to open a second location out west, Ken Siegel said.
He stopped by the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce after noticing an empty storefront at a prime location near Dowmtown City Park and learned that a local jewelry store had recently closed, he said.
The Siegels then called the trucking company that was delivering jewelry from Menlo Park to their original store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and told them to reroute to San Luis Obispo County.
By May 2012, Siegel’s Jewelry had opened in Paso Robles, he said.
For the past 10 years, the Siegels, along with goldsmith Stu Goldman, have offered jewelry, watch repairs, custom design work and a curated selection of diamonds and estate jewelry, according to the release.
“(Paso Robles) is a great community,” Siegel said. “The local community has been great at supporting local business. ... We’re going to miss the community.”
“We hope that someone can fill our shoes to fulfill the needs of this community and enjoy our location in the heart of downtown Paso Robles,” he said in the release.
The family’s Cedar Rapids jewelry store will stay open for now, Siegel confirmed.
Although the Siegels are closing up shop in Paso Robles, the couple will remain part of the community, this time as retirees, Ken Siegel said. Their first stop post-retirement is to Australia to spend time with their grandchildren.
