5 SLO County businesses make Sunset’s list of the best travel spots for 2021

San Luis Obispo County businesses are once again gaining national recognition for being among the best travel spots on the West Coast.

Sunset Magazine, which annually releases a list of best travel destinations, featured four SLO County businesses in its 2021 “75 Ways to Experience the West” list: Negranti Creamery in Paso Robles, Inn at the Pier in Pismo Beach, Granada Hotel and Bistro in San Luis Obispo, White Water inn in Cambria and Stables Inn in Paso Robles.

Those businesses were among more than 300 included in the Sunset Travel Awards highlighting the best destinations on the West. Coast. Here’s what the travel magazine had to say about them.

Pismo Beach and SLO hotels recognized as best ‘Wine Country Escapes’

Sunset Magazine recognized four California hotels as the best Wine Country Escapes — and two of those were in San Luis Obispo County.

Inn at the Pier in Pismo Beach was recognized for its hotel rooms boasting ocean views that are “an ideal start to a day of tasting,” according to the magazine. They also called out the ability to rent beach cruisers from the hotel to take a leisurely ride through downtown Pismo Beach.

Meanwhile Granada Hotel and Bistro in San Luis Obispo made the list as “urban luxury at its finest.” The magazine recognized the downtown SLO’s hotel’s luxe vibes of exposed bricks and Persian rugs as a major selling point.

Paso Robles ice cream shop and motel are hot travel spots

Paso Robles itself had two businesses make Sunset’s list this year, for two very different awards.

Negranti Creamery, the popular sheep’s milk ice cream shop that’s been scooping up new spots across the county in recent years, was recognized as the magazine’s “Sweet Treat” thanks to its “gluten-free and lactose-intolerant-friendly” ice cream flavors, as well as its ability to ship nationwide.

Stables Inn was also recognized as one of the travel awards’ four “Mighty Motels.”

“The name says it all at this horse-inspired motel just outside Paso Robles, where 19 rooms and a quaint, six-person bunkhouse are decidedly farmhouse chic,” Sunset wrote.

Stables Inn received recognition earlier this year as one of 73 properties on Travel + Leisure magazine’s It List 2021.

Rooms at White Water in Cambria have ocean views. The hotel made Conde Nast Traveler’s 2021 Hot List, Travel + Leisure’s It List for 2021 and Sunset magazine’s 2021 Travel Awards.

More praise for a Cambria inn

Finally, White Water inn in Cambria was recognized by the magazine as a “Waterside Gem.”

“Just steps from the rocky cliffs of Moonstone Beach on the California coast, this stylish lodge utilizes Block Shop Textiles artwork and custom furnishings to add simple touches that make all the difference in soothing suites with ocean views,” Sunset said of White Water.

The inn is no stranger to lists of travel superlatives. It made Condé Nast Traveler’s 2021 Hot List and like Stables Inn also made Travel + Leisure’s It List this year.

Last November, the hotel got a shoutout from Vogue magazine.

3 Santa Barbara County hotels make the list

The five SLO County spots weren’t the only Central Coast locations to make Sunset’s list.

The magazine also featured Skyview Los Alamos and the Cuyama Buckhorn as “Mighty Motels,” and Hotel Ynez in Solvang was dubbed a “Romantic Respite.”
