Anthropologie is opening a store in SLO. Here’s when and where
A major retail chain is opening a new store in a prominent downtown San Luis Obispo space, according to a company representative.
Anthropologie, which has more than 200 stores worldwide, plans to open its doors at 887 Higuera St. on Sept. 17.
The new shop will fill the 5,000-square-foot space vacated by Express, which closed in January.
“Located in the heart of California, we love that San Luis Obispo embraces the relaxed pace,” Dave Metz, a spokesperson for Anthropologie, in an email. “The sense of community, incredible business growth, amazing schools, wineries and the infusion of downtown hotels and restaurants perfectly complement our brand.”
Created as a lifestyle brand that caters to “creative, educated and affluent 30 to 45-year-old women,” Anthropologie specializes in women’s apparel, accessories, intimates, beauty products, home furniture and décor, the company’s website said.
The San Luis Obispo location will feature 70% women’s apparel, including denim, blouses, tops and dresses, Metz said, with an emphasis on a casual, relaxed California lifestyle.
In addition, 30% of the shop will “feature home products to compliment the in-store experience,” Metz said.
A representative of The San Luis Obispo Collection, a commercial property owned by real estate investment and management company Jamestown, said the company is thrilled to welcome Anthropologie into downtown San Luis Obispo.
“Anthropologie is the start of a new and exciting downtown SLO retail landscape for 2021,” Therese Cron, Jamestown’s vice president of West Coast leasing, wrote in an email.
Headquartered in Philadelphia, Anthrolopogie is part of the portfolio of the company URBN, which operates the global brands Urban Outfitters, Free People, BHLDN, Terrain, Menus & Venues and Nuuly.
The first Anthrolopogie store opened in 1992 in Wayne, Pennsylvania, according to the company’s website.
Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified the Anthropologie representative who spoke on behalf of the company. The store’s quotes should have been attributed to Dave Metz.
