Popular discount chain is opening a new SLO County location
A popular bargain retail chain is opening a new San Luis Obispo County location.
Dollar Tree is getting a 9,200-square-foot store at a Los Osos shopping center, according to a San Luis Obispo County building permit.
The new discount store will be in-line in the center between Miner’s Ace Hardware and Central Coast Pizza on the west side of the center on Los Osos Valley Road.
Construction is now underway. The work entails remodeling several small spaces into a larger venue.
The company also operates under the Family Dollar banner.
In 2020, the company opened Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores side by side in Morro Bay, reflecting the demand for discount products often sold at the $1 price level.
In fact, Dollar Tree was formerly known as Only $1.00.
Headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia, Dollar Tree is a Fortune 500 company and operates 15,115 stores throughout the 48. states and Canada.
Products offered in a Dollar Tree store include food, cleaning supplies, seasonal décor, housewares and health and beauty products. Most Dollar Tree stores also sell frozen foods, baked goods and dairy case items such as milk, eggs and ice cream.
In August 2012, the company began accepting manufacturer’s coupons at all of its store locations.
In Los Osos, the arrival of Dollar Tree will mean that most of the spaces at the shopping center will be filled for the first time in years. Other businesses at the complex include Grocery Outlet, Rite-Aid and Starbucks.
When Los Osos Fitness closed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Miner’s Ace Hardware expanded into that space.
The Gambril family, which owns the shopping center, was not available for comment.
In addition to Morro Bay, Dollar Tree has locations in Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo.
The company closed one of two San Luis Obispo locations in June after 11 years in business, although it wasn’t clear why it shuttered that store.
