Los Osos loses its only gym to the coronavirus shutdown
The owner of Los Osos Fitness has decided to close the gym permanently, as the extended COVID-19 crisis takes its toll on local businesses.
In a note to its hundreds of members, owner Terry Brown and manager Laura Watson announced that the town’s only gym would not be reopening.
“Thank you for over 25 years of supporting our mission ‘Getting You Fit for Life.’ Thank you for sharing your smiles, accomplishments, stories, jokes and wisdom.
“Everyday we did our best to make exercise a therapeutic and fun part of your life. Staff and members seemed like one big family. We have missed that very much since we had to close almost 2 months ago.
“Sadly, Los Osos Fitness will not be reopening for financial reasons.
“I imagine when gyms are allowed to reopen and the economic climate improves, someone will open a fitness center in Los Osos.
“Until then, stay healthy my friends. Drink water, eat well, breathe, laugh and please get some exercise!”
The note is signed “With Love and Appreciation, Terry and Laura.”
Los Osos Fitness, located next to Miner’s Ace Hardware, has provided the community with exercise opportunities since 1994.
It was originally located at the old 10th Street Gym location, before owner Terry Brown remodeled the former Miner’s space and moved the gym to its current location in 2000.
The gym employs 36 fitness experts, has almost 10% of the population as members, and over the years has provided the space, equipment and instruction for more than 1.4 million workouts according to a Los Osos Chamber Business of the Year write-up in 2018.
The gym plans to sell equipment in late June.
