'24' star Kiefer Sutherland is coming to SLO — for a concert
TV viewers are used to seeing "24" star Kiefer Sutherland brandish a gun — but Central Coast concertgoers will soon see him carrying a guitar instead.
Sutherland, 51, will play a concert April 21 at the Fremont Theater in downtown San Luis Obispo.
The son of actor Donald Sutherland, Kiefer Sutherland is best known as the star of ABC's "Designated Survivor" and Fox's "24" franchise. His other screen credits include the movies "Flatliners," "The Lost Boys," "Stand by Me" and "Young Guns."
The younger Sutherland is also a seasoned musician.
In 2002, he and musician Jude Cole launched an independent record label, Ironworks. Sutherland, who left the label in 2009, released his debut country album, "Down in a Hole," in 2016.
Sutherland isn't the only actor-turned-musician to perform in San Luis Obispo County in recent years.
"Natural Born Killers" actress Juliette Lewis rocked San Luis Obispo back in 2007, and "Footloose" leading man Kevin Bacon performed with his brother, Michael, in Paso Robles in 2008.
"The Newsroom" star Jeff Daniels played an acoustic blues concert at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo in 2015.
Jeff Bridges, star of "Crazy Heart" and "The Big Lebowski," is practically a regular on the local concert circuit. He and his band, The Abiders, played the former SLO Brewing Co. in San Luis Obispo in 2012 and performed at the Fremont Theater in 2014 and 2015.
Tickets for Sutherland's all-ages show in San Luis Obispo cost $26 to $30, or $66 to $70 for a VIP meet-and-greet. They can be purchased online via Eventbrite.com or in person at Boo Boo Records in San Luis Obispo.
