Popular restaurants Petra and Goshi to open new spots in SLO

Two of San Luis Obispo’s favorite eateries are bringing their cuisine to the SLO Public Market at Bonetti Ranch this month.

Goshi Japanese Restaurant, one of San Luis Obispo County’s top sushi restaurants, and Petra Mediterranean Pizza & Grill, a longtime local favorite, are both joining the SLO Public market in early 2026, according to an announcement from the market.

Taylor Judkins, owner of the SLO Public Market, said he’s excited to bring high-quality local restaurants to the market entering the new year.

“We’ve always wanted a sushi restaurant at the public market, and Goshi happens to be my favorite restaurant in San Luis,” Judkins said. “I pursued them for a while, and then it got to the point where it was just the right timing for them, and we had the right space for them, and so that ultimately worked out.”

Both businesses are opening their new locations as expansions, not replacements, for their existing locations in San Luis Obispo, Judkins said.

Judkins said Petra will fill the space left by Brooks Burgers, which vacated its space in the market in September, while Goshi will fill the space left by Bishop’s Market, which opened in April only to close around four months later.

“We’re always kind of trying to carefully curate all the tenants of the Public Market to make sure that it’s a mix,” Judkins said. “There’s 20 different vendors there, so it’s a little bit of a dance to make sure that everybody’s belonging.”

While exact dates for the new openings aren’t set in stone yet, Judkins said Goshi is targeting a Feb. 1 opening date, while Petra is looking to open either in late January or early February.

Petra’s arrival at the SLO Public Market was announced Oct. 24 via the market’s Instagram page, while Goshi’s arrival was announced Jan. 5.

The Tribune reached out to both restaurants for comment but did not receive an immediate reply as of Tuesday afternoon.
