Carrie Underwood is coming to the Mid-State Fair — along with 4 other headliners

Country star Carrie Underwood is among the music icons headed to the California Mid-State Fair this summer, fair officials said Friday night.

The fair announced a total of five grandstand acts Friday, including one that had been previously publicized — singing supergroup Pentatonix.

Pentatonix will take the main stage on the opening night of the fair, July 22.

The Grammy Award-winning a cappella group, which found fame after winning NBC’s competitive singing show “The Sing-Off” in 2011, is making its fair debut.

Underwood, whose hits include “Before He Cheats” and “Jesus Take the Wheel,” returns to the fair for the third time on July 23.

Underwood rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of “American Idol” in 2005 — releasing her debut album to rapturous reception the same year. To date, she’s released six studio albums, including 2018’s “Cry Pretty,” and won seven Grammy Awards.

Another returning fair act is country star Eric Church, playing the Chumash Grandstand Arena on July 26. Steve Earle & The Dukes will open the show.

Church, whose songs include “Drink in My Hand” and “Some of It,” performed at the fair in 2012 and 2018.

Dan + Shay, the country pop duo behind the chart-topping hit “10,000 Hours,” will make their fair debut on July 27

And on July 31, Heart lead singer Ann Wilson will headline the fair’s annual Evening of Music & Wine event. Her voice can be heard on the classic rock band’s biggest hits, including “Barracuda” and “Crazy on You.”

In each case, fans can purchase tickets via phone and online starting at 10 a.m. on the day tickets go on sale, or in person at the fair box office, 2198 Riverside Ave. in Paso Robles, starting at 1 p.m.

Also on Friday, fair officials announced five Frontier Stage concerts, which are free with paid fair admission.

Classic rock band Blue Oyster Cult performs July 25, followed by country act A Thousand Horses on July 29, country rocker Uncle Kracker on July 30, country star LeAnn Rimes on July 31 and technobanda group Banda Machos on Aug. 2.

Together with the mainstage acts announced so far, those shows represent “approximately half of the 2020 concert lineup,” fair spokesman Tom Keffury said Friday, adding that more concert announcements will be made in the coming months.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the California Mid-State Fair runs July 22 through Aug. 2 at the Paso Robles Event Center. For more information, call 800-909-FAIR (3247) or www.midstatefair.com.
