Field of Light at Sensorio will remain in Paso Robles indefinitely

The popular Field of Light that has mesmerized thousands of visitors will remain as a Paso Robles attraction indefinitely, Sensorio announced in a news release Wednesday.

Bruce Munro: Light at Sensorio, which includes two art installations created by the British artist Bruce Munro, will continue as an exhibit in residence on an ongoing basis, Sensorio said.

This is a departure from past announcements that included repeated plans to extend the lifespan of the exhibit. In July, Sensorio accounced plans to keep the art installation at 4380 Highway 46 East open through Jan. 2, 2022.

The Field of Light was created by Munro in May 2019 and covers 15 acres of rolling hills with 58,800 spheres illuminated by fiber optics. Visitors can walk along meandering paths or sit on benches to watch the morphing blooms of colors.

The exhibit is Munro’s largest art installation internationally and his first in the United States that was powered entirely by solar energy, according to the release.

Then, in April 2021, Sensorio added the Light Towers exhibit. Light Towers celebrates Paso Robles’ wine country legacy and features 69 towers built with more than 17,000 wine bottles, also illuminated with fiber optic lights.

Sensorio has also announced plans for a third exhibit and a conference center and hotel.

Since opening, the exhibit has attracted more than 200,000 visitors and has been ranked on numerous “must-see” lists, according to the release.

The ethereal landscape has even been the setting for six marriage proposals, Sensorio said.

The arts exhibit is leaning into its reputation as a setting for romance.

Paul Haught, the executive director of Sensorio, told The Tribune in July that Sensorio is designing a 2,500-square-foot venue with a full-service kitchen and bar that can be used for wedding rehearsal dinners, corporate events and meals featuring local wineries.

Admissions to the exhibit costs $41 and up for adults, $20 for children (children under 2 years are admitted for free). Tickets for the VIP Terrace and amenities cost $85 and up. VIP guests can add on a charcuterie or crudité platter for $110.

Tickets are sold online at sensoriopaso.com and guests can call (805) 226-4287 with questions.
