Arroyo Grande’s Delanie Dunkle advances in CIF-Southern Section tennis regionals

Arroyo Grande High School’s Delanie Dunkle advanced in the tennis CIF-Southern Section Individual Regionals with two wins Monday at Cate High School in Carpinteria.

Dunkle, the sophomore PAC 8 singles champion, defeated Cate High’s Grace Duss (6-0, 6-1) in the second round and West Ranch’s Jordyn McBride (6-1, 6-0) in the third round after a first-round bye.

Dunkle will find out Wednesday if she will play again Nov. 29 in the round of 32 at Whittier Narrows or go directly to the round of 16 to be held the next day at Seal Beach Tennis Center.

Arroyo Grande’s doubles team of senior Mary Waterman and junior Casey Lieberman, who also had a first-round bye, lost in the second round (6-0, 6-2) to Summer Christensen and Sarah Polowczak of Cate High. The duo ends their season with an overall record of 56-13.

Atascadero junior Nicoline Breytenbach finished her season with a loss in the quarterfinals. In the first round, Breytenbach defeated Danielle Kalck of Camarillo 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. In the second round, Breytenbach defeated Zoe Nathan of Malibu High School 6-1, 6-0, but fell in the quarters to Sofia Lazzaroni of Chaminade, 2-6, 2-6. Breytenbach finished the season with a record of 40-5.
