Crews contain 14-acre vegetation fire near Los Alamos
Firefighters were able to contain an approximately 14-acre vegetation fire that forced extended road closures on Drum Canyon Road south of Los Alamos on Saturday afternoon.
The fire was first reported at 12:11 p.m. and was initially believed to be 50 to 100 acres. It prompted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office to request the road’s closure in both directions.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason said the fire was 100 percent contained by 5 p.m. Crews were expected to remain at the scene through the night and hope to have the fire fully extinguished by 4 p.m. Sunday, Eliason said.
Eliason said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
