Police call death of woman found in Atascadero home suspicious

Update, 11:40 a.m. Sunday:

The death of a 49-year-old woman found in an Atascadero residence is being investigated as “suspicious,” said Sgt. Jeff Wilshusen of the Atascadero Police Department.

About 5:30 p.m. Saturday a neighbor reported finding the deceased, Wilshusen said.

When officers arrived at the house, they determined that the death appeared suspicious in nature, he said. He declined to provide further information about how the body was found, or why police are calling the death suspicious. Police are waiting for the toxicology report and autopsy results to determine the cause of death, Wilshusen said.

Original story:

Law enforcement officials are investigating a suspicious death at a home on the 5300 block of Traffic Way in Atascadero, police said.

Atascadero Police Department officers and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office investigators went to the home, where one deceased person was found Saturday, Atascadero police Sgt. Robert Molle said.

No additional information about the person was available, and police weren’t looking for any suspects, Molle said.

He said no one had been taken into custody.

County coroner’s officials were called to the scene; investigators haven’t determined whether foul play was involved, Molle said.

Molle said the death was being investigated as “suspicious.” He said it was too early to say whether the death would be considered a homicide or a suicide.

Officers were called to the home about 5:28 p.m. Saturday. Molle said he wasn’t sure who made the initial call to police.

Investigators cleared the scene about 9 p.m. Molle said more information would likely be available Sunday morning.

More information will be added to this story as it becomes available.
