Victim, suspect in fatal Oceano stabbing identified
San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s officials identified a woman stabbed to death in Oceano in an alleged domestic violence incident early Sunday morning.
In a news release Monday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 26-year-old Patricia Jacobo, of Oceano.
A man arrested on suspicion of the fatal stabbing was identified as Humberto Jacobo Chavez, 27, also of Oceano. The Sheriff’s Office said Jacobo Chavez is the victim’s husband.
The Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that deputies responded to a report of domestic violence at about 12:30 a.m. in a home in the 2100 block of Warner Street.
When they arrived, they found a woman dead from apparent knife wounds and a man suffering from what appeared to be self-inflicted knife wounds, Sgt. David Kenitz told The Tribune Sunday.
“At this time, investigators believe Jacobo Chavez killed his wife and then tried to take his own life,” Monday’s news release reads.
Chavez was transported to a nearby hospital in serious but stable condition.
San Luis Obispo County Jail logs indicate he was booked at the hospital at about 2:21 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of a single charge of murder. He remained in the hospital Monday afternoon and will be released to the custody of sheriff’s deputies if and when he is medically discharged.
According to the jail log, Jacobo Chavez will initially be held without bail.
The Sheriff’s Office said it received numerous inquiries about the suspect’s immigration status. He is a legal resident of the U.S. with no prior contact with the Sheriff’s Office, officials said.
There are no other suspects in the case and the alleged murder remained under investigation Monday.
