Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated that the victim’s truck had front-end damage due to the suspect fleeing. Police said Monday that the damage was caused by the victim driving the truck into a light pole in the parking lot following an altercation with the suspect inside the vehicle.

Update 10:30 a.m. Sunday

The suspect who allegedly stabbed a man in front of a Starbucks in Pismo Beach and stole the man’s car was located later Saturday night and arrested, according to a Pismo Beach Police Department news release. Both the vehicle and suspect were found in Pismo Beach.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked on suspicion of attempted murder and carjacking charges, the news release said.

Earlier Saturday night, police officers, Cal Fire and San Luis Ambulance personnel administered aid to the 36-year-old stabbing victim, and then transported him to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition early Sunday morning. More information on the man’s condition could not be learned.

The names of the suspect and victim have not been released because of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Pismo Beach Police Department at 805-773-2208.

Original story

A man was stabbed and had his pickup stolen in front of a Starbucks in Pismo Beach on Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded to the incident about 7:20 p.m. and found a man bleeding in front of the coffee shop on Five Cities Drive, said Pismo Beach Police Department Chief Jake Miller.

The victim was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo with multiple “severe” stab wounds to his upper body, police Cmdr. Tom Portz said.

The victim’s condition was not known as of 9:30 p.m. Detectives were at the hospital attempting to interview the victim to get more information on his attacker, Portz said.

Police said the pickup — a black Ford F-150 — was stolen by the attacker. The pickup and the attacker remained at large as of 9:30 p.m., police said.

The pickup’s license plate number is 7M69014, Portz said.

Police said the attacker was described as a male adult in his 30s; he is tall, with a medium build, and was wearing dark clothing.

Miller said a statewide “be on the lookout” alert was issued for the attacker and the vehicle.

The Starbucks near where the attack occurred is at 501 Five Cities Drive in the Pismo Coast Shopping Plaza.

Neither the attacker nor the victim entered the Starbucks during the incident, police said.

Police cordoned off several blocks near the plaza, forcing dozens of drivers to take detours around the immediate area. The investigation was ongoing as of 10 p.m. Saturday. No other information was available.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives at the Pismo Beach Police Department at 805-773-2208.
