A 22-year-old San Francisco man crashed his RV into a tree on South Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The driver, Gabriel Gomes, was traveling north in his recently-purchased 1982 Fleetwood Southwind with his father and grandfather when he drove off the road.

Gomes said his father was reading the driver’s manual in the passengers seat when Gomes looked over and briefly lost sight of the road.

“Sure enough, he looks up and screams, ‘Hey!’ and literally all I see is this tree,” Gomes said. “It was almost like I was already hit. Everything was going like that.”

Police officers arrived on scene. No one was injured in the crash.
