Giuseppe’s Express opens in SLO; full restaurant to open soon
Popular Italian eatery Giuseppe’s Express opened Sunday in the historic Sinsheimer Bros. building on Monterey Street in San Luis Obispo. Owner Giuseppe “Joe” DiFronzo told The Tribune on Sunday that he hopes to open the full restaurant, Giuseppe’s Cucina Rustica, within seven to 10 days.
DiFronzo said he obtained permission to open Giuseppe’s Express as a “trial run” to get it up and running before the full restaurant. The business closed its Court Street location at the end of October.
DiFronzo said he’s been overwhelmed by the positive reaction from the community, noting that “this is a historic building and people are excited to see it occupied again.”
After opening Giuseppe’s Cucina Rustica, DiFronzo said he plans to turn his full attention to rebuilding the Pismo Beach restaurant, which he hopes to reopen next year. A fire broke out at that location in June, gutting much of the restaurant.
