Tribune’s Best: Vote for SLO County’s Athlete of the Week for Jan. 23-29

With some thrilling high school basketball games and standout performances in soccer, 11 student-athletes are nominated for “Athlete of the Week” in boys and girls sports, celebrating their feats during the week of Jan. 23-29.

Nominees include athletes in basketball and soccer.

You may vote as many times as you wish to support your selection for The Tribune’s Athlete of the Week.

After an outpouring of more than 61,000 fan votes, last week’s winner was Brody Naber of Arroyo Grande High School boys basketball, who received 22,521 votes (37% of the overall tally) for his 23 points and game-winning three-pointer in a 66-65 win over Mission Prep.

Kosuke Nishimura, of Templeton soccer, was second with 12,346 votes (20%) and Mission Prep’s J.J. Howard was third with 9,348 votes (15%).

The poll closes at midnight on Sunday. To vote again, hit refresh.

Coaches, parents or students may nominate an athlete for next week’s prep poll by emailing nwilson@thetribunenews.com.

Please write “Athlete of the Week nominee” in the subject line. Nominations in any winter sport are welcome.

Those nominating are asked to provide full player name and school, any key stats and the result of the game. Polls will post weekly on Tuesdays through the end of the school year.
