SLO County high school football scores: SLO tops Atascadero to stay unbeaten
San Luis Obispo beat Atascadero Friday by a score of 31-13 to remain unbeaten in Ocean League play.
The tone was set early as the Tigers scored on every possession in the first quarter with a field goal and two touchdowns. Each score was followed by kickoffs by Jack Krill that carried into the endzone for touchbacks and kept the Greyhounds from breakout returns.
That set up good field position for San Luis Obispo as the Tiger defense kept the Greyhounds from crossing the 50-yard line in the first quarter.
Quarterback Jayce Gomes ran the ball in for the first San Luis Obispo touchdown after Krill had kicked a field goal on the previous drive.
Atascadero’s first scoring drive came was kept alive by a pass that bounced from the hands of Aiden Lemoine to C.J. Bell, who gathered it in. Trey Cooks would later score, making it 17-6 with 6:27 left to play in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Gavin Righetti came up with a pick-6 interception, and as a light rain began to fall in the fourth quarter, the game wrapped up with running plays.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Greyhounds fell to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in league.
This week’s games lead into league finales on Oct. 28 for teams countywide.
