SLO County prep football results: Nipomo stays undefeated with 27-10 win over SLO
Undefeated Nipomo continued its hot start to the season Friday night, beating San Luis Obispo 27-10 in a cross-county non-league matchup.
It was a game of big turnovers and big plays, and for three quarters, the game was closer than the final score indicated.
In the first quarter, Nipomo’s Raemar Agnes picked off a pass, and less than a minute later, Titan’s quarterback Nate Reese ran 37 yards for a touchdown.
The extra point kick was blocked by the Tigers, and the back-and-forth tone was set.
San Luis Obispo established an effective throwing game with a touchdown pass completed to Miles Debrum and another drive that ended with a field goal.
Meanwhile, the Titans’ Reese fumbled in the red zone and lost a scoring opportunity as the Tigers took a 10-6 lead into halftime.
Nipomo’s defensive secondary came out strong in the second half, first with an interception by Nick Milton and then with another by Agnes, a pick-six that gave the Titans the lead at 13-10.
A pair of high snaps pushed the Tigers back into their end zone for a safety 15-10, and on their next possession, Milton intercepted a San Luis Obispo pass in the end zone, preventing San Luis Obispo from scoring.
Titan Cole Gilson intercepted another San Luis Obispo pass to begin the 4th quarter and ran it back for a touchdown to make it 21-10 before Reese broke off another run for a touchdown to finish the scoring at 27-10.
Nipomo came into the game undefeated at 4-0, one of two county teams yet to lose a game. Mission Prep went into Friday’s competition also undefeated at 3-0.
Reese has led Nipomo all year, tallying 435 passing entering the game with five throwing touchdowns and 386 yards rushing with six scores on the ground, according to MaxPreps.com.
