Mission Prep’s Jennifer Laird, SLO’s Callum Bolger headline PAC 8 All-League picks

Mission Prep senior Jennifer Laird capped a decorated high school volleyball career this week by being named by league coaches the PAC 8’s Most Valuable Player for the 2016 season.

Laird, who will play volleyball at St. Mary’s College next year, led the PAC 8 in both kills and hitting percentage and helped the Royals to a share of the PAC 8 title with Arroyo Grande. The PAC 8 MVP was her first, but it was the fourth straight year Laird was named First-Team All-League.

All-League teams from the other fall sports, football, cross country, girls golf and tennis and boys water polo, were also announced this week.

San Luis Obispo senior Callum Bolger and Arroyo Grande junior Malia Simon were named Most Valuable Players in cross country. Righetti senior Caleb Sandberg was named boys water polo MVP, and Righetti junior Sarah Fouratt claimed girls golf MVP honors.

In girls tennis, where no MVP is named, Arroyo Grande sophomore Delanie Dunkle and Atascadero senior Nicoline Breytenbach shared First-Team honors in singles. The Arroyo Grande doubles team of Mary Waterman and Casey Lieberman along with the San Luis Obispo team of Maddie Handy and Riley Quinn were named First-Team in doubles.

The PAC 8 coaches for each sport were in charge of All-League selections. Here are the First-Team selections for girls volleyball, boys water polo, cross country and girls golf:
