Things just don’t work like they used to

They just don’t make salt shakers like they used to, says Art Fries.

Kathe Tanner’s column (“Political ethics can’t be harder than condiment conundrums,” April 6) got it right with her ketchup packs.

Always a struggle and a mess. Reminds me of most salt shakers in restaurants that look pretty but are nonfunctional. I usually have to take off the top, put some salt in the palm of my hand and sprinkle it on the food.

The only salt shakers that seem to work are the simple ones you see in diners with the big holes that haven’t changed shape since the cave man days. I wish all restaurants had these salt shakers.

Have you noticed lately that more objects look pretty but just don’t work?

Art Fries, Nipomo
