No amount of dog bite fatalities is acceptable to victims’ families

I recently read that there were “only” 40 dog bite fatalities in the country in 2014 (“Man dies after being critically injured in Grover Beach dog attack,” Dec. 17).

Only? Tell that to the parents that lost children or relatives of the senior citizens that cannot defend themselves.

How many of those 40 could have been avoided if some of the owners were responsible dog owners? Do they really need pit bulls and other large dogs? If so, be responsible.
