Out-of-commission water station leads to confusion in rain totals

According to the front page of The Tribune on Oct. 29, Cambria received over an inch of rain (“How much rain did SLO County get? Here are the totals”). On the back page’s weather column, it reported (as it has all season) that Cambria received no new rain.

In case your editors don’t notice the disconnect, please know it’s probably because your daily statistics rely on the San Luis Obispo County water station at Santa Rosa Creek in Cambria, which has been out of commission for months. Perhaps there’s a story there on why it’s taking so long to put that station back online.

In the meantime, maybe you could note “n/a” for precipitation and season totals for Cambria, or find a different source for your readings. Otherwise, given this town’s penchant for disagreeing, locals just might begin arguing about whether or not it really has rained.
