Carpenter would bring visionary leadership to SLO County Board of Supervisors

I find it comical that Joan Carter in her letter to the editor Oct. 26th (“Dan Carpenter is penny wise, pound foolish”) suggests that Dan Carpenter is somehow not supporting our parks and open space. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Mr. Carpenter’s highest ranking during the budget process was “open space,” followed by multimodal transportation, housing and neighborhood wellness. He has consistently supported our open space acquisitions and maintenance programs both in the city and our surrounding greenbelt.

In fact, earlier this year Mr. Carpenter led his colleagues in moving forward the much-anticipated Laguna Lake Reserve Conservation Plan and the city’s first Master Plan for Open Space Maintenance.

During his tenure on San Luis Obispo City Council, he provided leadership in completing the LOVR overpass project.

Look closely, Ms. Carter, at the city’s Climate Action Plan document adopted in 2012 and you’ll see his name on it. Ms. Carter, that’s visionary leadership, and your grasping at straws with unsubstantiated innuendos is disingenuous. I’ve personally observed Mr. Carpenter in his role on the SLO City Council for six years now and he is exactly the type of supervisor I want for my family and our community.
