Flood advisory issued for SLO County beaches as waves hit up to 18 feet

A high tide of nearly six feet could mean flooding across beaches along the Central Coast this weekend.

A coastal flood advisory was issued Friday evening until midday Saturday, with surf heights expected to peak between 10 and 18 feet, according to the National Weather Service. High tide was also expected to hit about 5.8 feet.

The increased surf could bring a risk of “sea water flooding across beaches,” including Oceano Dunes parking lots and walkways, the agency said in a post on X.

This comes as San Luis Obispo County was in for another drizzly weekend, with rainfall expected again on Sunday.

Drier weather is predicted up through New Years Day, with temperatures dropping to the mid 60s on the coast and mid 70s in the valleys.
