Santa Ana winds push fire risk to dangerous levels in SLO County mountains
Santa Ana winds whipping through San Luis Obispo County are creating high-risk conditions in wilderness areas, Cal Fire warned.
On Monday, the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for parts of San Luis Obispo County, which meant there is a high fire danger there.
The warning will be effect from Monday at 10 p.m. to Tuesday at 10 p.m. in the San Luis Obispo County mountains, the Weather Service said.
Dry, Santa Ana winds — known as Santa Lucia winds locally — and low humidity create conditions for fire to spread rapidly, Cal Fire said.
“Residents are urged to remain vigilant and use extreme caution to avoid sparking a wildfire,” Cal Fire posted on X.
Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego counties had similar warnings, Cal Fire said.
