SLO County to start emergency repairs on road that was crumbling away after heavy rains
San Luis Obispo County is starting emergency repairs on a section of road in Cayucos damaged during this and last year’s storms.
According to the San Luis Obispo County Public Works, an embankment on Picachio Road was damaged in January 2023, but posed no imminent danger to the public.
The agency said heavy rains in February increased the washout area, however, threatening motorists using the road.
“To prevent more extensive damage and to ensure access to residents in the area, the repairs were prioritized to take place immediately,” the agency said in the release.
Public Works had previously been awaiting approval and reimbursement of funding from FEMA to help pay for the repairs, according to the release.
The road will be under construction starting Monday and is expected to be finished March 15, according to the agency.
The road will be converted to one-way traffic during construction, which will take place weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some intermittent closures lasting 20 minutes.
