Heatwave brings 100-degree temperatures to SLO. Is cooler weather is on the way?
A brief heatwave brought record-high temperatures to San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
By 2:30 p.m., the temperature at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport had soared to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, blowing past the previous record of 93 degrees set in 2018, the NWS said.
Other areas of San Luis Obispo County also saw scorching high temperatures on Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, the mercury reached 95 degrees at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Paso Robles Municipal Airport.
The agency measured a high of 97 degrees at 1:30 p.m. at the Morro Bay harbor.
Wednesday marked the sixth time this year that San Luis Obispo has reported daily high temperature records, according to the NWS.
The heat was a far cry from what the Central Coast typically experiences at this time of year.
San Luis Obispo’s normal high temperature for October ranges from 75 to 79 degrees, whereas the normal high for Paso Robles in October ranges from 75 to 86 degrees, according to the Weather Service.
Fortunately, cooler temperatures are on the way for the county.
Thursday will be “another warm day,” the NWS said in its forecast.
According to the agency, coastal zones in the county will probably be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Wednesday while the valleys will be 2 to 4 degrees cooler “as offshore flow weakens and the sea breeze can push in sooner.”
The National Weather Service predicted a slight chance of a drizzle or light rain on Saturday into early Sunday, but mostly in the southern reaches of the county.
In San Luis Obispo, temperatures are predicted to drop from the low 70s to the low 60s from Friday through Sunday, according to the NWS.
Paso Robles residents can expect temperatures from the mid-80s on Friday, dropping down to the low 70s on Saturday and Sunday.
The Morro Bay area, meanwhile, is expected to return to the high 50s to low 60s Friday through Sunday, according to the Weather Service.
