The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties on Sunday thanks to strong winds throughout the region.

The advisory is from noon to 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds from 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts of up to 40 mph. The winds will span from beaches to inland areas in both counties.

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport reported one of the highest wind speeds in the region in the last 24 hours, with wind blowing at 37 mph Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Gusty winds could make driving difficult, blow down tree limbs and cause a few power outages, the advisory said.

The National Weather Service also issued a marine warning for gale-force winds. The warning will remain in effect until 11 p.m.

The strong winds will “create dangerous sea conditions, which could capsize or damage” ships, the warning stated.

Northwest winds are expected to be 20 to 25 knots with gusts up to 35 knots and combined seas of between 8 to 12 feet.

The gale warning will be in place from Point Piedras Blancas Beach in San Simeon to Point Sal State Beach in Guadalupe.

The National Weather Service recommended mariners remain in ports or safe harbors or alter course.
