4 days of rain on the way to SLO County. Here’s what’s in store through Christmas

Four days of rain is on the way to San Luis Obispo County starting Wednesday evening as another storm hits the Central Coast.

Although it’s hard to tell how much rain may fall this holiday week, forecasts suggest from 3 to 6 inches, according to PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey and the National Weather Service.

The rain will be accompanied by a cold spell, with temperatures peaking in the high 50s on Wednesday and remaining in the low 50s through the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service. Nighttime temperatures may hit freezing in some areas of the county, the National Weather Service says.

The storm will also bring periods of high winds, with speeds of 8-18 mph on Wednesday ratcheting up to 25-38 mph on Thursday through Saturday.

There is a slight chance that rain will start falling as early as Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

About 0.25 to 0.75 inches is expected to fall by Wednesday evening, according to Lindsey.

But showers will likely pick up on Thursday and Friday, Lindsey and the National Weather Service predicted.

Between 2 to 4 inches of rain is predicted to fall in areas throughout the county those days. The Santa Lucia Mountains may see as much as 6 inches of precipitation by Friday evening, according to Lindsey.

However, the storm may taper off on Christmas Day, bringing a forecasted 0.75 to 1.25 inches of rain to the county on Saturday, Lindsey predicted.

Higher elevations may even see a white Christmas with snow expected as low as 3,000 feet as temperatures dip down to the freezing range on Saturday.

After a pause on Sunday, the forecast for next week also shows a likelihood for more rain returning Monday.
