SLO County forecast for the week of May 31: Cooler, unsettled weather ahead
After a prolonged stretch of hot and dry weather last week — the Paso Robles Airport hit 106 degrees last Wednesday, smashing the previous record of 99 degrees recorded in 2003 — a cooler, more unsettled pattern will develop across the Central Coast through this week.
In other words, the forecast for this week looks complex as high pressure builds to the north with an area of low pressure developing over Southern California.
Fresh to strong (19 to 31 mph) northwesterly winds and clearing skies are forecast on Sunday into Monday afternoon. Decreasing winds and increasing marine low clouds with areas of fog and drizzle are forecast Monday night into Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to gradually warm through midweek with a chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms across the Sierra Nevada. The longer-range models hint at the possibility of rain showers across portions of the southern San Joaquin Valley Wednesday and Thursday; however, the Central Coast is expected to remain dry.
Cooler weather is then favored to return toward the end of the week as a trough of low pressure shifts into the Pacific Northwest.
