Candidate drops out of SLO County supervisor race. Here’s why
A candidate for the District 4 seat on the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors has withdrawn from the race.
Why? He is planning to move out of the district he was running to represent.
Tyler Brewer, a local businessman in Arroyo Grande, announced his withdrawal from the race in a news release on Saturday, not two weeks after announcing his candidacy. He did not specify where he was moving to, only that it was outside of District 4.
“District 4 deserves leadership that is fully present and dedicated to addressing the needs of Nipomo, Arroyo Grande, Oceano, Halcyon and all of our surrounding communities,” Brewer said in the news release. “Because of my relocation, I will no longer be eligible to serve, and it would not be fair to continue my candidacy under those circumstances.”
State and county election code stipulates that residency and voter registration in the area a candidate wishes to represent is a legal requirement for running for office.
In the news release, Brewer emphasized that his decision was based solely on his relocation. He said he hopes to continue to support the community of Arroyo Grande through his business, Family Paralegal Associates, which will remain located in the city, he said.
“Though I will not be continuing as a candidate, I remain committed to serving others in both my professional work and community involvement,” he said.
With Brewer stepping down, incumbent Supervisor Jimmy Paulding and Adam Verdin remain the only two candidates for the District 4 seat. Brewer endorsed Verdin in the news release.
