Election results: Incumbents lead for Pismo Beach mayor, City Council
Incumbent Pismo Beach City Councilmembers Scott Newton and Marcia Guthrie are poised to win reelection in the race for two open seats on the City Council on Tuesday night, while incumbent Mayor Ed Waage seemed to have clinched victory in his race.
Three candidates are running for two open seats on the City Council this November: Guthrie, Newton and business owner Gianni Scangarello.
According to the final Election Night ballot count release at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday with all precincts reporting, the two incumbents took leads over Scangarello, with Newton receiving 47.9% and Guthrie receiving 37% of the vote. Scangarello received 15.1% of the vote.
In the mayoral race, Waage led retired federal agent Kevin Kreowski with 65.7% of the vote as of midnight, while Kreowski secured 34.2% of the vote.
“I am pleased with the strong support from the voters in Pismo Beach and I thank my many volunteers who helped with my campaign,” Waage told The Tribune on Tuesday night. “I look forward to continuing to serve the city I love.”
As of the final Election Night count, 3,327 ballots had been tallied in the Pismo Beach race, or around 53.1% of the registered voter population in the city.
Ballot Measure F-24, which asked voters to approve a half-cent sales tax that would provide around $4 million a year to carry out infrastructure projects, secured 63.1% of the vote as of the fourth ballot update.
The final release included vote-by-mail ballots that were counted in the weekend leading up to Election Day as well as ballots cast in person on Tuesday.
