Jimmy Paulding poised to unseat Lynn Compton as SLO County District’s 4 supervisor
Jimmy Paulding is likely headed to the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors after opening a wide lead over Lynn Compton in the race for the District 4 seat on election night.
As of 1 a.m., with all precincts reporting, Paulding led with 58.3% of the vote to Compton’s 41.7% — a difference of 1,594 votes.
The candidate who gets more than 50% of the vote wins the seat.
There are still an unknown number of mail-in and conditional ballots to be counted, which may not happen till the end of the week.
The competition for the District 4 seat is a rematch between two candidates: incumbent Compton and Paulding, an Arroyo Grande City Council member. They competed for the seat in 2018, and Compton defeated Paulding by only 60 votes.
“We’re excited to see that we’re up ... we’re also excited to see the rest of the numbers,” Paulding said early on in the night. “We’re just kind of hanging out, drinking beer and waiting for the results.”
As of Tuesday night, Compton did not respond to the Tribune’s request for comment.
The vote tallies are subject to change over the coming days as the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office processes more last-minute and provisional ballots.
Final election results could take up until early July to be certified.
